Recently found on the reverse side of one of Ellen Chudy’s childhood drawings, is a sketch to a very early David Chudy painting.
Ellen’s early drawings – which included a few final attempts to produce artworks circa 1940 were scanned for an upcoming memorial when this was noticed.
David and Ellen were together prior to the marriage on the Copperbelt in Northern Rhodesia (Zambia) where it seems likely this early naive painting was done.
Presumably either one of them ‘repurposed the same piece of paper for their efforts. Whatever the story – it is a nice discovery. Following is the drawing and the final painting.
